Our Restaurant & Bar and lounge
Pemba Lodge was established in 2010 when the owner, Nassor El Mahruki, visited Shaminia Island and saw the potential for low impact tourism and how it would assist the 150 resident families. Developed, staffed and maintained by local islanders, they also grow much of the lodge’s fresh produce as well as harvest its fresh seafoods on the menu.
The ‘Heart’ of the lodge is the combined restaurant, bar and lounge area which overlooks the tranquil bay on which the lodge is situated. While away the hours on our comfortable sofas or in a hammock with a book or simply enjoying the vista of countless shades of turquoise, blue and green against the silvery sand.
The restaurant serves Swahili inspired meals with vegetarian options, using organic fruit and vegetables as well as freshly caught fish and seafood, all provided by the local farmers and fishermen. Fresh herbs and salad vegetables are harvested directly from local gardens, and spices prepared on Pemba island used for beautiful flavours.
